DPM won't turn on
Digital Pocket Memo does not respond to any action in order to turn it on.
DPM is not charged
Philips Pocket Memo Manual
Of course you will eventually have to recharge your device. The DPM8000 comes with a dockingstation and a micro USB battery charger.
Bad dockingstation/USB-charger
Before taking any further action you should check whether the dockingstation or the charging cable are defective. If both of them do not charge the device the problem will most likely be causes by the DPM itself.
Drained/bad battery
Another reason for your device not to turn on could be a bad battery. In this case you will simply have to replace the accumulator.
Bad display
It is possible that it appears nothing is happening because the display is bad. You can try to turn the device on and wait for a few seconds until you switch the BA-Slider into his highest position. Now the DPM should be recording, which is indicated by the red recording lamp on top of the device. If there is no red light either the lamp itself is broken or, more likely, the display is bad and has to be replaced. The procedure is shown in this guide.
Connection between logic board and display got loose
Before purchasing a new display, it is recommended to first check the connection between the logic board and the display of your DPM. If this is the case you can simply plug the cable of the display back into the connector on the logic board. Here you can figure out how to check the connection.
Bad logic board
If none of the possibilities above is true the problem most likely lies in the logic board, which means you will have to check the logic bard for clearly visible failures regarding the including components. In case you are not able to identify any obvious defects you can try to replace the logic board.
No audio or distorted audio
Your DPM is appearing to work correctly, but when you try to replay a recording there is either no sound at all or distorted sound
Volume at zero
If there is no sound at all you should at first check the volume settings of your device before trying to repair anything that is not broken.
Bad speaker
If you are not able to identify any problems with the settings of your device it might be a hardware problem. In this case you will have to dissassemble your DPM an check the speaker for any faults. If the solder connection came undone you can resolder the connection. If the solder connection does look good and there is a distorted sound it will most likely be due to a bad speaker which means you have to replace the speaker.

Bad microphone
Another reason for a distorted or missing audio could be a bad microphone. Be aware that the DPM8000 comes with two microphones: the unidirectional microphone on the top right side of the device and the MEMS-microphone in the upper left corner. If the problem is caused by the MEMS-microphone you will have to replace the whole motherboard. But first check the soldering connections of the unidirectional microphone and if necessary resolder it or else replace the microphone. In case of a bad audio it can be very complicated to identify the core of the problem and therefore it is recommended to first consult a technician before venturing any replacements that might not be necessary.

When you let go of the BA slider while recording, the recording stops. Same problem with rewinding the recorded.
